AEROSMITH TOXIC TWIN TOWERS BALL, JUNE 26TH 1999, WEMBLEY STADIUM -
REVIEWThey may be old, but Aerosmith still have the funk. First on the bill were 3 Colours Red, who had as little stage presence as Santa Claus has Christmas presents. It was hot, so we took this opportunity to sit down and drink a little, while they played their popular tunes, which is why they were only on for half an hour. Trying to poke my fingers through the floor boards in an attempt to steal some real Wembley grass was in fact more interesting. So thank God for the Black Crowes, who I wasn't expecting to be any good, but who were fantastic. They were cheesier than those Cheesy Moments crisps you get from pubs with horseshoes hanging on the walls, with an hour's worth of catchy songs and cool guitar playing. Next were the Stereophonics, one of my favourite bands at the moment, who were let down by the fact that they are a three-piece band in a huge stadium, something only very few bands can pull off well, and which the Stereophonics, err, didn't really. Good versions of
A Thousand Trees and Check My Eyelids for Holes, but the performance would have been better at a smaller venue. Next up was the man. THE MAN. Lenny Kravitz. Sparkly guitars, big hair, a female drummer and a white suit, he just couldn't go wrong. He and the other guitarist played some absolutely amazing guitar solos, as they played a set which included Mama Said, I Want to Get Away, and (of course) Are You Gonna Go My Way. Best performance so far, even more so because there was a trumpet and a sax, but less so because there was a flute, which doesn't go quite so well in rock music… AEROSMITH!!! What did you expect, they were great from start to finish if you forget about I Don't Want to Miss a Thing because that's really a very boring song. Steven Tyler's mouth was as huge as it's ever been, and they played a good mixture of songs, including Love in an Elevator, Walk This Way, Sick as a Dog, Draw the Line and Falling in Love is Hard on the Knees. So all in all, a very very good gig indeed. Well done. B+.Pros:

LEEDS FESTIVAL, AUGUST 28TH-30TH 1999
It looks like Reading Festival might finally be good again this year. It is being held at Richfield Avenue in Reading and Temple Newsam in Leeds, with the same people playing in Leeds, only a day later. Tickets for the whole weekend, including camping and parking, are £84.00, and are available online by visiting
http://www.aloud.com/festivals/reading_leeds99.shtml. It's only a rumour that some bloke in the pub told me, but apparently the very special guests playing Saturday/Sunday might be Pearl Jam!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! The line-up looks like it's getting better too, because Feeder are playing now, as well as the Dandy Warhols, who I think are good. So there. Here is the line-up so far:
